I’d like to introduce another nice place to eat today, Lam Hong Hainan Chicken Rice. It’s located along Penang Road but instead of driving down from Upper Penang Road, you must start drive along Macalister Road towards Komtar. It’s situated on your left side after passing about 2 traffic lights, corner shop beside Lorong Bertam. It’s open from about 11pm onwards till finish (rather early about 3pm).
The stall ‘jiu pai’/ signage. Don’t really know why he put up the Thai words because neither him nor the food appeared to be of Thai origins, hehe. |
Seeing how the boss chopped the chicken was entertaining and one of the kinds. Too bad I’d forgotten to record a video. |
Once N and I sat down, the boss’s wife (I assumed, may be wrong. Maybe he kept his gorgeous wife at home) took our orders. Actually, we just mentioned that we want 2 sets of Hainan chicken rice and within minutes (2-3minutes to be precise), our rice, soup, and finally chicken were served. The chicken came in two choices; white chicken for more juicy and smooth texture and fried chicken for more firm meat plus enhanced taste.
Once seated, quickly prepare your chili before the rest of the dishes arrive. The chili tasted unique and spicy and will make you longed for more torments;) |
Soup and soy sauce came next. The soup was ‘light’ but flavorful. The soy sauce is to be added onto rice or chicken. I love to ‘banjir’ my dishes with sauce, yay! |
Rice was fragrant, but I doubt it’s from Thailand. They’ll give you a plate to pour the rice onto it. |
Chicken finally arrived, rather big portion, almost about a quarter chicken. All these for only RM6! |
Close-up shots
As a comparison, the portion is much more generous than Thiw Chik Hainan Chicken Rice (will introduce this in future entries), service is much faster than Wai Kee Char Siew Rice and the price and tastiness are about the same with both of the giants. There are also side dishes like ‘loh bak’/ Chinese sausage, which complement the main serving of Hainan chicken rice perfectly.
The friendly boss extolled the virtue of his chickens to me but unfortunately, I don’t understand Hokkien, hehe. |

Tips:
Turn into Lorong Bertam for parkings
‘Banjir’ or flood your rice with the chicken/soy sauce for extra tastiness;)
Tasty Or Not?
Rating 8/10, for all the above reasons;)
