Otak-Otak Cheng Boi @ Muar: The Authentic and Best Muar Otak-Otak

One problem that I often encounter when a town/ place is well known for its local foods is everyone starts to give the same name! Think of Kajang satay and you'll understand. Every satay stalls in Kajang...and those in other states named their satay stall/ restaurants as Kajang satay. So how you know which is the original Kajang satay?!

And now, the same applies to the small town of Muar. What it's famous for? Otak-otak! Everyone knows that Muar is famous for their otak-otak! But where is the original or best otak-otak?

Otak-Otak Cheng Boi...my favorite otak-otak shop in Muar! They specialized in otak-otak, doing both retail and wholesale (if I'm not mistaken).

But firstly, some brief description on this local delicacies which made Muar so famous and make this town a must stopovers for whoever who passes this town. Otak-otak is a fish paste made of fish meat (usually with mackerel) and spices (mixture of chillies, garlic, shallots, turmeric, lemon grass, coconut milk, etc.) and is traditionally served fresh, wrapped inside a banana leaf and grilled until fragrance starts to emit from it!

Look for this road with your GPS...and you're near, very near. Come out from your car and follow the smell of otak-otak. Okay, just kidding. Ignore the previous sentence:)

And yes...'Tasty Or Not?' will let you know the ultimate and best-est and most favorite otak-otak stall in Muar. Instead of driving randomly all over Muar and settled for lousy otak-otak which will tarnish the great Muar otak-otak, try out my recommendation...

The price for the otak-otak, which is cheap compare to elsewhere. You can buy in stick form or in a box. If you're not in a hurry to consume the otak-otak or want to save some to eat on other days, get the box. Either way, the otak-otak is competitively priced. Please bear in mind to call and order first to avoid disappointment.

You can order in large quantities. Many people order in tens and hundreds sticks each. I even ordered 200 sticks at once before. No problem, just call first!

Yet another view, omg! How's the taste? Authentic Muar's otak-otak, unbeatable, un-replicable, hehe. Unlike those thin slices that you purchased elsewhere, you can actually feel your teeth sinking into the tasty and thick fish paste, which exudes spices' fragrance, plus tinge of spiciness. Also, the grilling is finely tuned to seal the fish paste freshness while preventing 'burnt' taste from over-grilled.

I almost finish enjoy eating this otak-otak stick before I realized that I haven't snap photos a of the otak-otak inside. As you can see, the fillings were packed firmly and more than adequate.
