If you enter Lebuh Chulia through Jalan Penang, go straight until you see a green color building (Sky Hotel) on your left. The restaurant is located on the ground floor.
Wai Kee Char Siew Restaurant at the ground floor of Sky Hotel (budget hotel). It's hidden behind a big umbrella and wooden blinder but people can find this place. |
Upon arrival at 12pm, the restaurant is already filled with people to the brim. Some were even standing behind those who were about to finish eating. |
We ordered char siew, siew yuk and duck meat for 4 people, found a place to sit and started to wait for our food. Love this colorful glass pics!:)
On the other hand, the boss sprung into action since opening at 11am, remembering countless orders and chopping non-stop. If people order thru him, he’ll just look up at you briefly and then went back into chopping more. Rest assured, he remembers your order.
The Last Stand |
Why is Wai Kee char siew so special here? If my tastebud is not mistaken, I's because it had been prepped with a special and secret (not so secret anymore, hehe) ingredient. Honey! Yes, I think he marinated the char siew with honey. I could swear there was some sweet aftertaste. How about the secret gravy? Hm, that, I haven't figure out yet.
Duck meat...shining, shimmering, splendid
The duck meat was nicely prepared, leaving more meat than bones, yay!. The meat is also tender and juicy and not stubbornly hard to chew...I prefer chicken anyway, hehe
Chilli sauce and and sweet sauce, cute:) |
Finally, after I manually moved the huge umbrella and the blinders aside, I managed to snap the stall’s name, Wai Kee (the K was missing). |

Tips:
1. Come early. Waiting time if you go at 11am (opening) is about 30 minutes. If you go at 12pm, waiting time about 45minutes and if you reach there at 1pm, the waiting time is about an hour. If you come at 2pm...sold out:)
2. Must try char siew (I'd suggest half lean, half fat subtype, taste great!) and duck meat.
Tasty or Not?
Rating: 8.5/10...char siew 9, duck meat 8.5, siew yuk 8 if calculated separately:)
