Shop front. Giant kaya puff seen here, but actually mini size only:)
Once arriving, start queuing on the left side. The queue is always there, whether long or short queue only:)
Many other foodstuffs, but kaya puff outshine all others. To be honest, I never try others besides kaya puffs.
Ask anyone from Ipoh where to buy the best kaya puff and you’ll get the same reply, Sin Eng Heong. If these unison replies don’t convince you, then maybe throng of tourists and locals at this shop will convince you instead.
Fresh from the oven, but finishes fast with everyone ordering in 20s, 50s and 100s.
Closer look at mini kaya puffs; golden color, flaky, crispy.
What’s kaya puff and what makes Sin Eng Heong’s kaya puff so special? Kaya puff aka kaya kok aka kayang puff is a small pie with kaya fillings in a baked pastry shell to prevent it from spilling out. Kaya filling is made from mixture of eggs, coconut milk and sugar, giving it the smooth and creamy texture and sweetness.

So much kaya until bursting out from the kaya puffs? Wait till the kaya in it burst into your mouth, hehe
The kaya inside. Unfortunately, much less kaya compared to the good old days when the pastry shell could hardly contained the huge amount of kaya in it.
At Sin Eng Heong, the kaya puffs come in mini size but is jam packed with kaya inside. It’s freshly baked from the oven straight to you. To be able to eat the kaya puffs when it’s still hot, flaky, and crispy and the kaya inside still warm is the best. This scenario could well happened because most of the time people wait for the kaya puffs instead of the other way around, so the kaya puffs are always fresh out from the oven. The queues are long sometimes, especially when you see a bus outside the shop, bringing in tourists.

1 paper box contains 10 golden kaya puffs in it.
You can buy in 5 kaya puffs (in small plastic container) or 10s (in a paper box). Previously, it was RM0.70/kaya puffs but the price was increased to RM0.80 recently, inflation? I won’t mind paying a little bit more but unfortunately, the amount of kaya also seemed to be a little less these days, aii. Anyway, people still coming in buying 20s, 50s or even 100s kaya puffs, so better call and order first if you’re planning to buy large quantities.

Tips.
Once reaching Sin Eng Heong, start queuing first. You won’t want to start queuing after a bus brings in 20 or 30 people.
If planning to buy large quantities, please call in and order first. The wait can be really long, especially during weekend.
Buy more, it’s never enough, hehe.

Tasty Or Not?
Rating 9.5/10, but a little disappointed with the decreasing amount of kaya in each kaya puffs. Definitely the best kaya puff and you can’t find it anywhere else.

  4. The people at Sin Eng Heong are assholes. I asked how long is the wait for kaya puffs because there's a queue, they talked down to me and act like they don't want my business. Very rude. Don't go there unless you enjoy being insulted.
