BREAKFAST: McDonald vs. KFC...And The BEST Breakfast Goes To...(Final Part 2/2)

Just to recap again, I'm trying to decide which breakfast set is the best. Is it McDonald...or KFC?

In order to do so, I'll be comparing the most frequently ordered breakfast set in both McDonald and KFC, which mean I'll be comparing:

McDonald's Weekday Breakfast Special (Sausage McMuffin With Egg, RM4.50), consist of a a freshly toasted English muffin, add savory sausage, a slice of American cheese and a fresh Grade A egg, plus a cup of refillable Premium Roast coffee/ tea. Impressive resume, huh!
VS
KFC's a.m Riser, RM4.80, consists of KFC's signature Original Recipe chicken fillet, topped with an scrambled egg and mayonnaise sandwiched between a sesame seed bun. plus a cup of Nescafe Alta Rica
NOW, LET US COMPARE!

Price
The price of both breakfast sets are almost the same, so pricing won't be a factor here. In fact, the price is comparable to eating breakfast at normal coffee shops nowadays, but in addition you'll get the extra free coffee/ tea refills, Wi-Fi, air-condition and meat (sausage/ chicken fillet). In this sense, I see both McDonald and KFC as winners.

Buns
McDonald has their toasted English muffin while KFC has their sesame seed bun. I'm a fan (hmm, does that make me impartial?) of McDonald buns because not only their muffin taste nice but their whole range of burgers, from this fragrant toasted muffin to the soft Fillet-O-Fish bun, all are sandwiched with great buns, . On top of the great taste, McDonald even too the effort to toast its muffin to make them extra special. KFC, on the other hand, has just the sesame seed bun to offer. I see nothing special at all, just...bun.

Sausage McMuffin With Egg. The cheese seen here had melted in the middle, the sausage was a little thin but tasty, the muffin was nice every single bite
Cheese vs Mayonnaise
Which one would you prefer? Cheese for their high calcium content and little (a little subjective) taste, or mayonnaise for their great taste but hazardous fatty contents and low nutritional value? This is an even call for me as I myself would love either one to be in the burger also. I wonder if anyone bright in McDonald or KFC will put these two 'together' to give their burger an extra edge (hope they read this!)

am Riser: Small size but packed with ingredients. Seen here is the sesame seed bun, Original Recipi chicken fillet and scrambled egg.
Egg
With McDonald, you'll be getting their so called Grade A eggs nicely fried into round shape, which fits perfectly with the burger. It's reassuring to know that I'll be getting a full one egg with my burger. KFC, on the other hand prepares the egg in the form of scrambled egg and the amount doesn't seemed to equate to a whole egg (maybe equals to one small egg, hehe). I think whichever style of eggs depend on our own preferences. The verdict...McDonald marginally won over in this comparison.

am Riser: Scrambled egg placement were patchy but I knew it's difficult to achieve even distribution. However, the lack of mayonnaise here is unforgivable!
Fillings
McDonald has their sausage, which appeared to be just another meat patty made from...I really don't know which parts of the chicken? Do you think it'll be made from drumstick/chicken wing meat? Unlikely, right? I don't deny that the meat patty taste nice after some 'processing' but it's just like any meat patty from Ramly burger, IMHO. How about KFC? You'll be getting their signature Original Recipe (OR) chicken fillet (I'd call it the sister burger for Zinger burger!). Eating the boneless chicken fillet is akin to eating the drumstick chicken meat itself because the meat is so soft, tender, unprocessed! The OR flavor is another added advantage. KFC wins hand down, no doubt!

am Riser: Love the chicken fillet! Befitting to be Zinger burger's sister!
Drinks
McDonald offers their best and unlimited Premium Roast coffee or Boh Tea. I love free refills because...it's free! I think McDonald coffee lack of quality control as the taste always varies, from very minimal aroma to very strong coffee powder taste (especially when refilling from an almost empty kettle). To get a decent coffee in McDonald, always get your refill from the counter itself, then the coffee will taste nice. KFC has a surprise. On top of the option of Alta Rica coffee and tea, there's also fresh Twister orange juice to choose from. Orange juice?! Yeah! Guess what? After I finished my orange juice, I'll refill my cup with coffee next (and it's free refills too!), talk about being cunning here, haha. KFC wins here!

  1. The coffee in KFC Puchong taste so bland. It is not thick at all!! Worse than any 3 in 1 coffee. You are essentially just paying for the burger. Disagree.

  2. X: first fule of refill, don't refill from the coffeepot!
instead, ask for the coffee straight from the machine, lie if you need to (no more coffee in the coffeepot, etc, hehe)
