Lorong Selamat Char Koay Teow, Georgetown, Penang: Premium Penang Char Koay Teow, Both In Price And Taste!

Tourists to Penang, please pay attention!

Kafe Heng Huat @ Lorong Selamat, Georgetown, Penang
Your visit to Penang won't be complete if you haven't taste a plate of the famous Penang char koay teow. Actually, there are many char koay teow stalls peppered all around Penang (most are nice, if not great to eat also) but to find the most famous, most controversial and most expensive Penang char koay teow, go to Kafe Heng Huat @ Lorong Selamat, Georgetown, Penang. There are a few char koay teow stalls along this road but look for the Penang char koay teow stall that's operated by two sisters (see photo below).

The 'Sisters' in action. Which is the 'mean' one? Hehe. FYI, both were very courteous when I order my char koay teow, when I pay and when I asked for permission to take photos. :)
I'm sure you're wondering...why controversial, why mean? Well, read this Hawker 'fried ' on the Net. There were people who launched boycott campaigns to discourage people from eating at her stall, which I think was silly. Until today, we still do not know the truth (or the culprit, hehe) but obviously, the news had made her even more popular and crowds still packed her stall everyday.

Anyway, for food blogger like me, it's the FOOD and food alone that counts. I do not mind eating at an alley also or the expensive price or the rude bos/waitress as long as the food is good!

Penang char koay teow. I ordered my usual large size with extra noodles, extra 'liews' and extra spicy. Price? RM 9!!!. Is it worth it? Of course! The taste is excellent, especially when the sweet prawn taste, the porky aroma from lard and pork oils (unmatchable with any other cooking oil!), the salty Chinese sausages and the extra spiciness combined and blended so well with the koay teow noodle.

Why so expensive? 5 large prawns (I arranged them nicely here), Chinese sausages (few slices only), cockles and bean sprouts cooked altogether with koay teow enveloped with eggs. The combined taste (mentioned above) is enough to draw continuous stream of people to eat at this place. Even if you can afford it, you still have to WAIT!

Close up photo: Salivate over this! Hahaha.

Photo showing big prawn, cockles and a slice of Chinese sausage. How big is the prawn? Compare it with two cockles...still can't match the size of the prawn. Compare it also with the Chinese sausage...almost the same length. Honestly,

Just a simple food stall, but earning many times my salary for just a few hours of work everyday, aii...
Make sure you all stop by this char koay teow stall next time when you're in Penang. If you mentioned to her that you knew about her stall from 'Tasty Or Not?', you'll get 50% discount, hehe. Just kidding.
