Penang Famous Teochew Chendul @ Lebuh Keng Kwee, Georgetown, Penang: Authentic, Delicious And Best Chendul In Penang!!!

Under the scorching sun in Malaysia, consider yourself lucky if you're in Penang, whether you're staying in Penang, working in Penang or just coming to Penang for a visit (wise choice!). There's this small stall located along Lebuh Keng Kwee (a small alley on the left when nearing the end of Penang Road), which sells one of the best chendul/ cendol and ABC (ais batu campur) in Penang.
Both the boss and his wife preparing chendul and ice kacang. You can expect long queues throughout the day. Amongst the more popular visitors to this small yet popular stall are the casts from Phua Chu Kang comedy series, Gurmit Singh and Tan Kheng Hua (see the photo above the stall).
What are chendul/ cendol and ABC?

Both chendul/ cendol and ABC are Malaysian desserts (maybe not, but I must admit that we, Malaysians like to stake our claim for all kind of foods, hehe). Cendol is made from shaved ice, coconut milk, red beans, worm-like jelly made from rice flour and pandan leaves (giving it the green color) and palm sugar syrup/ gula melaka.

Due to the increase affluent of Malaysians, chendul/ cendol slowly evolved into ABC (ais batu campur), which retained all the basic ingredients for chendul/ cendol (minus the coconut milk) plus extra ice-cream, glutinous rice, creamed corn, nuts, cincau, or at some place, even durian and etc. Safe to say, both are foods that Malaysians from all walks of life enjoy.

Automated ice shaving machine to shave ice into tiny bits of ice.

Large containers: Red beans on your left and coconut milk plus long worm-like green jelly (made from rice flour and pandan leaves) on your right.
Gula melaka/ palm sugar syrup
The final product: A bowl of chendul/ cendol, RM1.80. Must really eat it fast or else the hot weather will melt all the shaved ice and turn it into a drink instead, hehe.
Anyway, don't worry about the hot weather. You can eat it inside a newly renovated shophouse (green color building), owned by the boss, Mr Tan Chong Kim. It's comfortable and your chendul/ ABC shaved ice will last much longer. His original stall is located just beside the corner shophouse in front (Joo Hooi Cafe). You'll have to pay an extra RM0.50 if you choose to eat the chendul/ ABC at Joo Hooi Cafe.
The large, chewy and flavorful red beans with long green pandan-rice flour jelly in coconut milk and not too sweet (great!) palm sugar syrup/ gula melaka. Too bad the amount is just too little. Excellent to quench thirst and dissipates heat during the hot afternoon in Malaysia.
In front of his shophouse, you can also order Penang laksa or fruit rojak (mix) to eat along with your chendul/ ABC. The Penang laksa was so-so only but the fruit rojak (mix) was nice. Suggest you order the fruit rojak here and the Penang laksa from the front corner shophouse (Joo Hooi Cafe).
Inside the newly renovated shophouse. Comfortable, airy and nostalgic.
Photos of our beloved Penang Chief Minister, Lim GE and casts of Phua Chua Kang comedy series, Gurmit Singh and Tan Kheng Hua adorning the walls of his shophouse. Many more photos of famous people can be seen here too.

10000 Pulau Pinang
Open daily, 10am - 7.30pm

Tips:
There are two stalls selling the same chendul/ cendol and ABC along this alley, look for the stall signage 'Penang Famous Teochew Chendul' or the stall with Phua Chu Kang photos on it, hehe.

Tasty Or Not:
Rating: 8.5/10. Nice not-too-sweet taste with flavorful red beans and coconut milk. Too bad the bos a bit kiamsap with the ingredients, especially red beans!
