Asked anyone who's staying in PJ or SS2 or even those who'd studied at nearby University Malaya (UM) about New Paris restaurant and they'll tell you that they grew up together with New Paris. Yes, this restaurant had been here for a long, long time.

This restaurant is big, spanning three shophouses, full with tables and filled with people! Brightly lit, clean, spacious and airy. There are ample car park spaces. The parking spaces are 'booked' by the workers by putting a plastic chair on the parking space. Upon knowing that you're eating at the restaurant, they'll remove the plastic chair and let you park your car.

Some UM students who'd graduated will come back for a 'visit' just to eat at this restaurant. The difference is that they'll bring along their friends and family too.

Eating utensils, plus Chinese tea (not seen here) arrived within 1-2 minutes after ordering. |
|
Do you know how they clean the table fast? Well, they put a lot of layers of plastic covering on top of the table. Once the customer had finished eating, they'll just remove the top layer of the plastic, bungkus it and bring it to the kitchen. |
Besides being one of the oldest restaurant here, it's also well known for their delicious foods as well as their excellent and speedy services. I went there with J and my sis (who introduce me to this place) for dinner yesterday.

Rice...fragrant rice, arrived first in a nice container, within 5 minutes. I was told that the rice can be refilled after finishing it (but I didn't try because I can't even managed to finish the rice that they served). |

All time favorite, kangkung belachan (RM8). It was the first dish to come out, within 10 minutes when the whole restaurant was jam packed with people at that time! The reason that I always order this dish, besides this dish being an all time favorite, is to allow me to compare how the food here taste compared to other places because kangkung belachan is the only dish that I always order everytime I ate ju char/ ju chow. Easy to compare an apple with another apple. How does this dish fare here? Rating about 5/10, vegetable was a little 'old', no discernible belachan/spicy taste (at all!) and tasted rather bland (we didn't even finish this dish!). However, the amount of cooking oil was rather minimal here, good! |
|
'Jiu pai' taufu/ 'restaurant branded' bean curd (RM9), meant that this tauhu is famous enough to be using the restaurant name. I love the mince porky here, slightly salty and captivating taste of small bits of pork in your mouth, plus the quantity was a lot too! This is to supplement the soft bean curd/ tauhu that's at most, still tasteless, hehe. Rating about 6.5/10 |
|
Best dish of the day, soft shell crab cooked together with salty egg (RM22). Excellent taste, adequate ham tan'/ salty egg enveloping each of the medium sized soft shell crab. Freshness still maintain despite after frying, with the sweetness of the crab all sealed inside until you bite through the crab's soft shell. Rating 8.5/10. |
|
'Ham yue fa lam pou'/ salted fish cooked with half lean-half fatty pork (RM10). It tasted rather plain (without the ham yue taste...and the ham yue also! no wonder). The pork was of right type, half lean-half fatty but was swimming in massive amount of oil below, yuck! Rating 4.5/10 |

Tasty Or Not?
Rating: 7/10. The food tasted good for some and great for some others too. Very fast and pleasant service. Definitely an eating place for busy people like me who likes the taste, the speed and the enjoyment (especially when eating with J and my sis!). Another memory captured from eating at New Paris:)
