Best Hospital Foods? Penang Adventist Hospital (PAH): Tasty And Healthy, Minus The Guilt:)

Going to hospital just to have my lunch/ dinner might sound a bit weird, right? Am I okay?:)

Penang Adventist Hospital A-La Carte menu. Many choices to choose from. You'll have to come repeatedly (just like me) to taste their variety of foods. ALL the foods served are of lacto-ovo vegetarian. The prices are reasonable.

Well, I did that not only once...but a few times at Penang Adventist Hospital (PAH) because the foods served there were rather 'special'. FYI, PAH observes a strict lacto-ovo vegetarian diet since 1924 (when the hospital was established) to promote healthy diet at reasonable cost.

Our cafeteria, which can seat over hundred people, serves a variety of vegetarian Chinese, Indian, Malay and Western cuisine.  Side orders include healthy high-fibre waffle, low-fat dumpling, high-fibre vegetarian sardines, high-fibre and low-fat pudding, oaty high-fibre and low-fat pancakes...PAH Food Service

Why and what's lacto-ovo vegetarian? Seventh-day Adventists followers recommend lacto-ovo vegetarian diet, which may include milk products and eggs but do not consume animal flesh of any kind.

Adventist fish and chips (RM8). Nicely fried, crispy on the outside and 'fleshy' inside, eaten with creamy sauce (not seen here because I haven't pour on it yet). No need to worry about bones (yay!). Advice you to eat the French fries first or it'll become soggy (wished they gave shoe-string French fries instead). Generous amount of vegetarians too.

Ate the same dish again at another time, no regrets:)
The 'big' fish swimming on top of the fries, hehe. Okay, you know this is my favourite. Let's continue with other dishes now.

Adventist Homemade Pizza (RM12), regular size with generous amount of cheese (see photo above, all covered with cheese!), vegetarian 'ham' and veges. Try not to 'tapau'/ takeaway like me and eat at the cafeteria instead. It's much nicer to eat while it's still hot.
Closer shots on the pizza. The bread layer and the cheese (plus veges) layer above is of equivalent thickness, hehe. Again, better to eat while it's still hot, unlike this photo when it was already cold. How about the taste? Simple taste with chunks of refreshing vegetables on top plus the sweet savory cheese too. However, the bread below was just...bread. I was expecting their bread to be the most special portion since Adventist is very famous for their healthy breads.
Spaghetti With Vegetables and Ham In Cream Sauce (RM8). I love this a lot, taste excellent! Spaghetti cooked just nice and not too soggy, the cream sauce allowed the rest of the veges and ham taste to share prominence and tickle every portion of my taste buds (unlike those tomato sauce in spaghetti that usually blanket the whole taste buds with just its taste)
Another closer view at my favorite spaghetti with vegetables and ham in cream sauce, lovely:)
Mixed Herbs Egg Omelet (RM6.50). The omelet was nice, big portion and filled with ample amount of vegetables. Herbs? The taste not really strong but did add some pleasant fragrance to the food. The bread and hash brown were, alright. I only found the sausages tasted a bit 'weird', don't really like it.
My Mixed Herbs Egg Omelet, seen from another angle
Golden triangle (RM4.50), with grilled ham and cheese sandwiches. Simple dish, yet packed with wholesome goodness, for those who need the extra 'calories' to start the day!
Close up photo shots of my breakfast, Golden Triangle at Penang Adventist Hospital cafeteria.
Besides all these a-la carte dishes, there are also noodles that you can choose inside the cafeteria. Seen here was my fried mee with spring rolls (I recommend you to choose the smaller spring roll)

My mixed lacto-ovo vegetarian 'economy' rice. Not really economy actually, cost me about RM6 but it's worth it...can't even see the rice!

My economy rice, after I spread out the foods. Love the 'goose' meat and the crunchy vegetables most! The other two selections were nice side dishes to fill up any available space in the stomach, haha:)

Tasty Or Not?
Ratings; 7.5/10. Definitely the best hospital foods amongst all the other hospitals (private/ govt.) in Penang. From my multiple visits to their cafeteria, you know I'm a fan!
