Village Roast Duck @ Bangsar Village, KL: Tasteless, Kiamsap, Overpriced!

I went to Bangsar a few days ago to take another sneak peek at what our affluence Bangsar-ians eat. They never cease to amaze me...having 3 Starbucks outlets in Bangsar Village alone?! I guessed for Bangsar-ians, Starbucks is their McDonald:)

Village Roast Duck @ Bangsar Village
I did ate at Bangsar a few times (see below)
How was my previous experiences eating at Bangsar area? Hm, so-so only...

Menu, name card, eating utensils:)
Back to my latest outing. I went to Village Roast Duck at Bangsar Village for dinner. Why do I chose this place to start with? Well, believe it or not, it's the price! RM 16.30 for a plate of rice with roast duck and roast pork/ 'siew yuk'! Normally, it'll cost about RM8 at Penang, RM7 at Ipoh and RM10 in Seapark, PJ for similar order. So, it must be good...or great, right?

Spacious restaurant, ambient was slightly gloomy but comfortable
Can it be comparable/ better to the other duck restaurants/ shops that I'd been to (see below)?
Restaurant's soup of the day, free of charge:)
The soup was tasted 'home-y', the veges and meat were throughly stewed until soft and in the process, surrendered all their inherent taste to the soup, nice!:)
Two combinations of roast meat on rice (RM16.30, inclusive of tax). I chose roast duck and roast pork/ 'siew yuk' combinations.

Closer view at my plain rice with roast duck and roast pork/ 'siew yuk'. I'd say the amount of roast meats were alarmingly little. Eight thin slices/ pieces of roast duck and roast pork meats, respectively (for comparison, I'll be getting a whole drumstick together with thigh duck meat at Seapark duck restaurant!). The roast duck didn't taste or feel roasted at all. The skin was soggy instead of crispy and there wasn't any 'roast' aroma at all. The duck just tasted bland with no (I presumed) marinating at all. That's so disappointing, especially when I was expecting excellent preparation for a restaurant which associate itself with duck (it was part of the restaurant name!). The roast pork also tasted bland, wtf?! No fragrant befitting a roast pork and no tinge of saltiness at all, just meat! Very disappointed. Oh, let not forget the rice...plain, dried and inadequate amount of sauce.

I asked the waiter to bring me extra duck sauce since they just put minimal amount of duck sauce on my plain rice. She brought a small bowl of sauce for me, great! Unfortunately, the duck sauce taste more like soya sauce than some authentic duck sauce. I was devastated!
The only consolation...the duck meat that I was served with had been de-boned but...such small/ thin piece of duck meats, aii.
Prove that the duck sauce sucks! I love sauces and I always tend to pour all the sauces on my rice. Seen here is the bowl of duck sauce, hardly touched.

Tasty Or Not?
Rating 3/10. To be fair to them, this rating is only for the dish that I ordered. I saw in their menu many other wonderful dishes...but I'm not sure about their taste. I beginning to doubt if there's any good food in Bangsar after being disappointed again and again eating here! Ban eating at Bangsar for 1 month!:)

  1. are you kidding, that place has one of the best duck in KL. dont be so sour just because you might not be able to afford it. IF that was true then explain to me why it is always full?

  2. Your comments about VRD must be kidding me. Probably there's some problem with your tongue, then don't blog about food.

  3. i totally agree with you. any duck u buy from the street taste better & much cheaper. they use lots of MSG & lard in their food, unhealthy. today i was served sour taste, garbage-smelled loh hon kor in their gardens outlet. My kids drank lots without knowing the foul taste!! when complain to them, they denied & said they cant smell anything bad! This really pissed me off. They should admit & apologise. That is why now i m broadcasting to the world. The noodles has lots of boric acid in it. the meat of their duck is too soft & serving is v stingy. Just bcos it is in bangsar doesnt mean it's good.

  4. I wish I read your blog before my lunch yesterday. I ordered the rice with a combination of roast pork and roast duck. The rice was okay. Roast pork was okay. And the most disappointing thing which I had for my lunch was the duck. The duck was flavourless. It lacks the awesome duck marinate flavour which I can get in other restaurants. So for the price that I had paid, I think this is a no-go.
