Come and try out this one-of-the-kind wan tan mee at Kedai Kopi Swee Kong (corner food court just opposite Burma Road police station) for breakfast. It’s not too heavy and not too light, just the right amount. The wan tan mee is also available for lunch but I think it more appropriate for breakfast. If you have it for lunch, you may feel hungry after an hour or two:)

BTW, why did I say this wan tan mee is one-of-the-kind?
- The special thick gravy on top (see photo above) helps to coat the noodles, giving the noodle extra smoothness and enhancing the noodle taste by increasing the egg: flour ratio of the noodle itself. The gravy is just like the gravy from ‘white’ koay teow/ ‘wat tan hor’ (not related and totally different from wan tan mee).
- Fried wan tan/ dumplings are crispy on the outside and packed with flavorful minced meat in the middle.
- Besides char siew, there are also pieces of chicken and a few slices of mushrooms, which contribute to different experiences when eating it; chewy with slight saltiness when eating the chicken and the nice sensation of your teeth cutting through the slices of mushrooms when nibbling it in your mouth.
Seen here is the fried wan tan/ dumplings, slices of char siew, pieces of chicken meat and green chili together the springy noodles. |

The noodles were also springy and nice to bite on, not too soggy and not too raw and hard to bite on. Once mixed thoroughly, the taste of the noodles plus the special thick gravy from above and sauces from below will blow and wake up your taste buds in the morning.
